About Nicole

Nicole Shroyer, LPC. EMDR Telehealth Specialist
I have wanted to be a therapist since I was seven! My grandmother bought me a book about how to become a psychologist for my birthday! Even with this desire, it’s still taken me a while to get here- but that’s life, right!
I started reading self help books when I was 12 and took energy healing courses at 13. Healing in all facets, interests me. Receiving scholarships for psychology majors, I started college and interned as a medical social worker.
Upon graduation, lacking the support and finances needed to continue on to graduate school, I started massage therapy training. All the while, I continued taking different trainings and certifications in bodywork, energy work, hypnosis and meditation.
During my massage training my sister, who had been diagnosed with multiple mental health disorders, had several suicide attempts. Then she had an accident due to a medication interaction and passed. The recovery was brutal, but I knew that I wanted to help others, on both sides, through similar tragedies. I wanted to know how I could have helped her.
My massage therapy business has been successful and allowed me to afford graduate school. The funny thing about bodywork is that when people are relaxed on your table, they open up about all their issues. It’s a different kind of “therapy” for sure! The universe just kept pushing me in that direction!
I worked at a residential rehab facility helping people get in touch with the reason they started using and identifying the root of the issue using guided meditation and NLP techniques. Later, I interned at a community mental health group where I dealt with mostly clients who had borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder, like my sister. I did DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) with groups and individuals.
I loved the work, but we never quite seemed to get to the real cause of the issue. Lots of bandaids, but I was looking for core healing. I knew if we could just get there and heal it, the symptoms could abate. I’ve always believed in the mind and bodies ability to heal.
During my last class in my masters program, I got pregnant and suffered tremendous amounts of brain fog, which continued for years as my son didn’t believe in sleep! As much as I wanted to transition into therapy, I just wasn’t up to the mental task, fearing I’d miss something important. I continued on with my massage business and eventually became a certified Naturopath and Melt instructor.
Then the pandemic hit and I became a homeschool teacher, a job I am not cut out for! While regrouping and reopening, after relocating my business, I got hit with medical issues of my own. An emergency hysterectomy and a benign diagnosis later, surgically induced menopause was here. There was so much fear during that time and recalibrating my body to its new normal. After surgery, I could no longer keep up my rigorous physical job. I decided it was time to make the leap. I enrolled in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) training and it was the missing piece I’ve been looking for! Bringing together the holistic aspect of mind and body, facilitating the minds ability to heal itself and blending with all of the other understanding and knowledge I’ve spent a life time accumulating. This was what I’ve been waiting for and I’m so very grateful to and for the work.
So here I am 13 years after graduating and ready to start on my original goal of being a therapist and helping people better understand themselves. Sometimes we take the long way home, but I’ve learned so much about myself and the human condition along the way. Overcoming my issues and traumas, I feel makes me a better therapist. Because you know what, I get it, I’ve been there.
Ram Dass says, we’re all just walking each other home and I love that. I’d love to take a walk with you!
Yours in healing,
Nicole
